Abstract:
In an effort to discover molecules that are therapeutically more effective substitutes for the available drugs that have developed resistance against their respective parasites (viz-a-viz: anti-malarial and anti-tuberculosis),over thirty novel metal-drug complexes were synthesized. Different transition metal salts of counter ion (chloride, sulphate, nitrate etc) and different reaction media (solvents) were utilized for the synthesis. The complexes varied in colour and composition.
In addition to the synthesis, structural elucidation and antimicrobial activities data, anti-malarial activities of the complexes investigated using mice infected with plasmodium berghei will be described. The effect of administration of the complexes on alkaline phosphatase activities of kidney, liver and serum of Albino rats will also be presented.
